The pillars of Jachin and Boaz symbolizes polarity, in the form of positive and negative poles of energy. 

Furthermore, the Cippus of Heru is an even more detailed depiction of this concept.

The 2 lilies illustrated in the cippus of Heru, adjacent on both sides, likewise, symbolizes opposite poles. 

However, the initiate in the middle, seen holding the scorpions, serpents, and beasts of the field symbolizes, holding poWRA.

In similar cippus, other figurines are sumtimes seen holding on to just the 2 poles. 

In other cultures, depending on their customs, a figure may be seen holding on to different types of animals, or just the 2 poles alone. 

Nonetheless, they are all symbolic of holding energy. 

In fact, did you know that the origin of the letter H is based on this hermetic principle of polarity.

Today, in its most simplified form, the letter H is still formed with two vertical lines held together by one horizontal [shaft] line. 

The shaft symbolizes the constant between the opposite poles.

Interestingly enough, the word Shaft is the middle word between Cippus and Scepter, in the etymology of all three words.
