[Right image] -  a Metropolitan Police officer has avoided a prison sentence after paying to access a portal containing videos depicting the sexual abuse, rape, and torture of babies, PC Darren Hourigan, 51, initially claimed he “may have been hacked” after investigators discovered he had accessed a platform featuring 3,490 videos and 295 still images of children, included in the officer's collection were 2,253 images classified as Category A—the most severe level, documenting the rape and torture of children, he accessed material included footage of infants as young as one year old being sexually abused, at the time of his discovery, PC Hourigan, of Coteford Street in Tooting, was a serving officer within the South Area Command Unit, which oversees the boroughs of Bromley, Croydon, and Sutton, in March 2020, the Met’s Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse team identified two email addresses belonging to PC Hourigan that had been used to enter the illegal portal, upon his arrest at his residence in March 2020, he informed his fellow officers that he had no knowledge of the images, the portal featured four specific folders containing child abuse material, including one labeled ‘baby’ and another titled ‘1 to 5’ during a subsequent interview, PC Hourigan claimed he had utilized the file-sharing site only to watch videos related to cycling and athletics, he maintained his denial of viewing indecent images of children, suggesting instead that his account “may have been hacked.” PC Hourigan eventually confessed to his crimes on April 26, pleading guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children, on Friday (July 7), he appeared at Kingston upon Thames Crown Court, where Judge Barklem handed down a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for one year, this ruling ensures he will not serve time in jail provided he does not commit further offenses during the suspension period, he had been suspended from his duties prior to being charged on September 21 of last year and subsequently resigned from the police force

[Left image] - a former West Midlands Police trainee has been jailed after grooming and sexually abusing a vulnerable 13-year-old girl. Haider Siddique, 23, initially befriended the child on Snapchat after she noticed his posts regarding women’s rights.

While serving as a student officer, Siddique engaged in full sexual intercourse with the victim on two occasions. The abuse led the young girl to fear that she had become pregnant.

Siddique, of Allwood Gardens, Bartley Green, was apprehended only after a bus driver witnessed him stroking the girl’s back, hugging her, and kissing her while she was dressed in her school uniform. The driver raised the alarm, leading to the officer's arrest.

Halfway through his trial earlier this year, Siddique admitted to two charges of sexual activity with a child. His guilty plea came just before the victim was scheduled to be cross-examined. An additional charge of child abduction, which he denied, was ordered to lie on the file.

Judge Sarah Buckingham stated that nothing could "excuse or explain" his conduct and sentenced him to seven years and seven months in prison.

Siddique had joined the force in August 2021. In March 2022, he accompanied the victim to Stechford Police Station regarding an unrelated matter. At the time, he claimed the girl was a friend of his sister who was interested in learning about Islam. However, suspicious officers drove the girl home separately, noting that his explanation "simply didn’t add up."

On March 22, a bus driver who recognized the girl from previous trips saw the pair together. Prosecutor Tim Ashmore noted that the driver observed Siddique sitting close to the girl and touching her back before hugging her as he exited the bus. Concerned by the interaction, the driver contacted the police.

Following the investigation, the victim revealed she had had sex with Siddique twice. Authorities later recovered an emergency contraceptive pill and a negative pregnancy test from her possessions.

Evidence showed the two had "declared their love" in messages, and Siddique had even messaged the girl's mother while posing as the parent of a friend to arrange an overnight stay. Despite this, he later claimed the victim had blackmailed him into the encounters.

In addition to his prison sentence, Siddique was issued a restraining order preventing any future contact with the victim or her mother and was made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Matthew Smith, 35, utilized the dark web to orchestrate child abuse, urging men to lure children away from their family homes and transmit footage of the sexual assaults back to him.

Smith formerly served as the deputy head at Thomas’s Battersea, a prestigious £20,000-a-year school previously attended by Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The educator pleaded guilty to 17 separate charges, which included encouraging the rape of a child under 13, causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and arranging child sexual abuse.

During a police raid on his East Dulwich home on Chesterfield Grove in November 2022, Smith told officers that he clearly had an addiction in that area and felt ashamed of who he was, stating he would do anything to be normal.

Prosecutor Martin Hooper revealed that over 120,000 child sexual abuse images were discovered on Smith’s computers, alongside messages to men in India where he encouraged the rape and maltreatment of children.

The court heard that one of the men commissioned to carry out the abuse was an individual Smith had groomed since the man was a young child.

Smith further incentivized the abuse by offering to pay the school fees for any young children the men managed to lure into their network.

Between the years of 2007 and 2014, Smith spent time working within NGOs and orphanages located in India.

The specific offending detailed in the case took place while Smith was living and working in Nepal.

There has been no evidence found to suggest that Smith perpetrated abuse against children within the UK or Nepal.

Following his return to the UK to take up a teaching post, Smith posted an online advertisement seeking a flat share.

In that advertisement, he identified himself as a primary school teacher and offered to assist with childcare; however, he was arrested before anyone could take him up on the offer.

Investigators have uncovered evidence of potential offending by Smith during his time in India, and that information has since been shared with the Indian police.
